Frequently asked questions

Which health insurer is the cheapest in Schaffhausen in 2026?

For an adult without accident cover: ÖKK (HMO model) at 446.70 CHF a month with a deductible of 300 CHF, and Helsana (BeneFit PLUS Hausarzt R2) at 327.85 CHF with the 2'500 CHF deductible. Each situation above leads to the full list of offers.

Are the premiums the same across the whole region?

Yes. Schaffhausen is in premium region 1 of canton Schaffhausen: every municipality in that region has exactly the same premiums. The region depends on your municipality of residence, not your postcode.

Until when can I change health insurer for 2026?

Your cancellation must reach your current insurer by 30 November 2025 at the latest; the change takes effect on 1 January 2026. The deductible changes on the same date, by telling your insurer.

Do I need to include accident cover?

Generally no if you work at least 8 hours a week for the same employer: their accident insurance (UVG/LAA) also covers non-occupational accidents. Otherwise, include accident cover if you are not already fully covered by another UVG/LAA accident policy.

Why is the FOPH-approved premium higher than the price shown?

The amount shown is the FOPH-approved premium, the same one as on priminfo.admin.ch, less the redistribution of the environmental levies (the CO₂ levy and the VOC incentive tax). In 2026 every insured person receives 61.80 CHF, which the insurer deducts from the invoices: 5.15 CHF a month, the same amount for everyone. The approved premium of 446.70 CHF at ÖKK therefore gives 441.55 CHF; the ranking does not change. Your invoice may still differ, for example with your canton’s individual premium reduction.
