We use basic health insurance premiums approved and published by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH). OneDoc organises them by municipality, age group, accident cover, deductible, model and health insurer so they are easy to compare. We do not negotiate, invent or estimate any premium.

What we use

For each year we import the premium files published by the FOPH. They contain the insurers, the insurance models, the deductibles, the age groups, the accident cover, the premium regions and the approved premium for every combination.

We also keep the files of previous years, from 2011 to today, to show how premiums have evolved over time.

Why your municipality matters

The premium depends on your municipality of residence and on the premium region it belongs to. We use the official mapping of municipalities to regions published by the FOPH.

Your postcode helps us find the municipality, but it is the municipality that determines the premium region.

What the displayed amount means

The premium approved by the FOPH: the official premium published for your profile, stated under each price.

The amount after the environmental levy redistribution: the large figure is the approved premium minus the share of the environmental levies (CO₂ levy and VOC incentive tax) that every insurer deducts from its invoices — the same amount for everyone, set by the Confederation for the year.

The premium’s evolution: when we have a comparable offer for the previous year, we show the change from one year to the next.

The insurance model: we group the models into the FOPH’s five categories — standard, family doctor / HMO, flexible, telemedicine, pharmacy.

What OneDoc calculates

The starting premiums come from the FOPH. After that we only perform clearly identifiable presentation steps: sorting offers by price, deducting the environmental levy redistribution from the displayed amount, computing the change between two comparable years, grouping models by category, drawing the tables and evolution charts.

We never alter the official premium: every calculation keeps the source value so that it can be checked.

How offers are ranked

By default, results are sorted from the lowest to the highest monthly price, according to the criteria you chose. No insurer can pay to move up the ranking: we do not weight results by any commercial relationship and we do not rate insurers.

The lowest price is not necessarily the insurance that fits your situation best: the care model, the professionals you can see and the insurer’s rules also matter in your choice.

What we do not do

We would rather leave a value empty than invent it. We do not estimate a missing premium, do not interpolate missing years, do not alter the FOPH’s tariffs, do not favour any insurer in the ranking, and do not present an unequal comparison as a year-on-year change.

If a value is not available or not comparable, we say so.

Why your bill may be different

The amount shown corresponds to the selected profile and the published data. Your actual bill may differ: your canton’s individual premium reduction, a discount for annual payment, special arrangements of your insurer, changes made after the data was published.

In case of doubt, the premium published by the FOPH and your insurer’s information prevail.

Does a figure look wrong?

Does a premium, a municipality, a model or a change look wrong? Tell us: we check the figure directly in the source data and correct the comparison if necessary.

How to verify a premium

We want every result to be verifiable. For each year we state below the source, the date the FOPH published it, the date of our latest import and the fingerprint of the imported file. Every page also exists as a Markdown version, with the same figures and the source stated.

Frequently asked questions

Is the FOPH premium shown on OneDoc the same as on Priminfo?

Yes. The FOPH-approved premium under each price is exactly the one on priminfo. The large amount is that premium less the redistribution of the environmental levies, whose yearly amount the Confederation sets and which every insurer deducts from its invoices.

Why do we ask for the municipality and not the postcode?

Because the FOPH sets premiums per premium region, and a region is a set of municipalities. One postcode can cover several municipalities, sometimes in different regions; in that case we ask you to name the municipality.

When do next year’s premiums appear?

On the day the FOPH publishes them, at the end of September. The import date is on every page, next to the FOPH’s publication date.
